Cameraman dies of electrocution
ITANAGAR, Feb 3: In a tragic incident, Ajay Jha, 21, a cameraman from ATV, a city based cable television channel, died this afternoon after he was electrocuted near Chevrolet Showroom between Itanagar and Naharlagun road.
Reportedly, the incident occurred when the deceased along with other staff members of the channel were laying new cable wires in the area. The deceased was immediately taken to Niba Hospital at Papu Nalah, however he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
According to his colleagues, the intensity of electrocution was so strong that few of them were thrown far away from the spot. The exact cause of the electrocution however has not been ascertained yet.
He was cremated at Laluk later this evening.

Farmers training prog on horticulture
AALO, Feb 3: The progressive farmers of Pusi Bango Circle had a sigh of relief when Horticulture department officers and fields workers landed at Nigmoi to impart much needed training to control lichen and maintenance of old orange orchard at the orange farm of Gonya Bagra on February 2. This programme under Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan states has been intensified in the district to do away growing problems of lichen and maintenance of old orange orchards for better yield and commercial values.

launched to give awareness on preventive measures on control of lichen, pest management,
pruning and plucking for quality production of oranges in the district. He disclosed

machine, telescopic long reach pruning shear, falcon revolving reach pruning shear,
lime, medicines, coper sulphade. He asked the participants to spread the message

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: In order to sensitize the people about the importance of clean and hygienic water resources and for the preservation of natural resources, a social service was organized by the executive members of Tani Foundation, an NGO at Rose Village (Midpu) under Doimukh Circle at the river Bank of Pare River on Saturday.
The members cleared all the littered plastics, papers, bottles and other garbages from the river bank which was piled up.
Advocating for cleaning up the surrounding after every picnic or gathering and also asking people residing near the river banks not to channel their toilets to the river, the NGO further suggested that the state government should come up with programmes and policies for conservation of river and streams in the state.

Post mortem has been done and no external injuries relating to a physical assault have been found, added police.

CM reiterates appeal for calm
DUMPORIJO, Feb 3: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today reiterated his appeal to the people to maintain calm and help bring back normalcy disrupted due to two unsavoury incidents of violence in the recent past.
“I appeal to those resorting to economic blockade on Arunachal Pradesh to reconsider their staunch stand on humanitarian grounds and also call on people from outside the state residing here not to panic due to few stray incidents. We are peace loving people and believe in bonhomie and peaceful coexistence,” the Chief Minister said while attending the annual conference of Topo Welfare Society (TWS) at Dumporijo today.
Taking note of the two recent incidents – clashes at Tarasso in Papum Pare district and assault on a student at New Delhi – Tuki condemned both the incidents and assured that law will take its own course and the culprits involved will not be spared.
He, however, appealed that the incidents should not hamper the peaceful coexistence of different communities in Arunachal Pradesh.
“For the mistake of few, innocent civilians cannot be held responsible or made to suffer,” he said expressing hope that good sense will prevail.
Addressing a massive gathering of Topo clan, under the aegis of TWS, Tuki highlighted the various development and welfare projects taken up by his government in the last two years. He sought cooperation and support from all sections to fulfill his vision of a developed and progressive Arunachal Pradesh devoid of unemployment and poverty.
“I am not a good speaker. I don’t mind because I don’t believe in speaking. I believe in working and I am working… working for a better future of our generation next,” he said to a round of applause.

Rahul joins protesters against Nido Tania's death, assures strict action
NEW DELHI/ITANAGAR, Feb 3: AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi Monday vowed "very swift action" into the killing of a student from Arunachal Pradesh Nido Tania in New Delhi recently and asked Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde to order a judicial probe, as he stepped in to address concerns of people from the northeast in the wake of attacks on them.
The Union Home Ministry, meanwhile, directed Delhi Police to sensitize all police stations in the capital about people from the northeast living in their respective jurisdiction and resolve their grievances.
The Delhi High Court also took suo motu cognisance of the death of the student Nido Tania last week after he was allegedly beaten by some shopkeepers in Lajpat Nagar and asked the Centre to file a report on the incident by Wednesday. Rahul met protesting student groups from the northeast who had gathered at Jantar Mantar demanding that those involved in the attack on the student be brought to book.

Meanwhile, APCC in a release today informed that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi have expressed shock and grief over the unfortunate and premature death of Nido Tania, son of Raga MLA Nido Pavitra recently.
Both the leaders spoke to Arunachal CM Nabam Tuki and Nido Pavitra on telephone and shared the pain inflicted to the aggrieved family due to the irreparable loss.
“It must be trying times for you and your family members to come out of the trauma of losing your loving son, Late Nido Tania who was in his prime youth, in a tragic incident in Delhi. But we must take the solace that the soul is immortal” they said.
Both joined rest of the country in condemning the incident in the strongest possible way and assured that the AICC would leave no stone unturned to provide justice to the late soul. “The perpetrators of the heinous incident will be brought to book and we will see that they are rightly punished according to the law of the land. Candlelight protest over Nido Tania's killing

RUKSIN, Fe 3: Several hundred people including student union members, NGOs, and civil society members took out a candlelight march at Pasighat town this afternoon in protest against brutal killing of Arunachalee student Nido Tania at Delhi.
The candlelight march started from J N College and culminated at Gandhi Chowk at Pasighat market. The protesters bearing placards, banners and festoons in their hands chanted various slogans against Delhi Police inaction and racial discrimination against the people of Northeastern states. They have demanded Justice over killing of the young student.
Addressing the gathering at culminating point, the student vehemently condemned racial discrimination cherished by the people of Delhi and other parts of the country. "We the Arunachalees are Indians like any other Indians then why there is discrimination against our people on the basis of physical feature? The repeated atrocities committed by mainland Indian people cannot be tolerated anymore,” the student leaders exclaimed.
While demanding that Nido Tania killers be awarded exemplary punishment, the students appealed for proper preventive measure to stop atrocity. The protesters also deeply mourned the unexpected death of the young student. As the detailed report came from ground zero, we got to know that those who carried out the attack comprised of more than 500 people. Now the big question, which everyone ignored at that point of time, is it possible for civilians to carry out such large attack?
The population in border areas is seemingly low in density. So, if all the perpetrators were really from Arunachal they have to mobilize from different parts (other adjoining areas). Again if this is to be believed, it would have easily caught the eyes of many people, even that of Assam. But do we have any such evidence? So, is there any armed movement in the area?
From the very beginning of this episode, the role of one Vivek Das a CPI (ML) leader has been alleged by Arunachal Pradesh. It has been alleged that it is Vivek Das who prompted the violence in the area. If we go by this version, no doubt many more queries will pour into the incident, but it is time to investigate upon it. The very first sight that caught my eyes was when I saw the bodies of victims covered with the red flags of CPI (ML), which sends a clear communist signal. One cannot deny it. Moreover, off the late, we are witnessing a Maoist uprising in Northeast. The government of both the concerned states should step in and look into the matter.
The main problem that followed this inhumane massacre is the heartless act of economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh. If people think that by economic blockade the problems can be solved, we would have never reached the age of globalization. Hatred and such blockades can never give justice to the victims. Nor will it bring the perpetrators to the book of law. It will just worsen the relationship of two brothers. The entire episode needs to be handled in a proper way. People of both the states should make it sure that by dividing them, someone else cannot fulfill their vested interest. Because if it happens, the souls of the victims will never forgive us, nor will our forefathers or God.
The esteemed organizations which are staging this economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh should think over it again. Just because a section of the society thinks that those who carried out the massacre were from Arunachal Pradesh, doesn’t justify this. We need to think in a broad perspective now. We should act promptly hand in hand to find out the root cause. The local residents of the border areas, organizations and government of both the states should sit together, in order to find out the root cause that led to the present situation. An eye for an eye is not the solution. We need to move beyond that. We need to realize that it is Assam and Arunachal which will suffer for this ongoing crisis. The perpetrators are at large and it’s them who will gain from this. We need to think beyond border dispute, because the perpetrators are taking advantage of the border dispute between Assam and Arunachal. If we don’t wake up at this alarm, it will be too late.
Since time immemorable Assam and Arunachal Pradesh shares a very special bond. It was the time when even the Britishers did not came to this part of the world. Was there any border dispute then. Arunachal Pradesh took birth from Assam. Besides that, the culture and traditions of the tribes of Arunachal and that of Assam have a vast similarity which even no anthropologist and historian can deny. So, why are we fighting among each other? Isn’t it a fight between two brothers?

Protest continues, condolences for Nido Tania pouring in
ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The Nation seethes with anger as the protest over the death of Nido Tania, spread throughout the country. The Arunachal Students Welfare Association of Pune (Maharashtra) and North East Community Organisation, Pune jointly organised a peace rally on February 02 at Pune from Good Luck Chowk to Shivajinagar police station ground to protest assault and subsequent murder of Nido Tania. Students and other people from North East states working in Pune in various capacities also participated in the rally with placards and posters. While condemning the brutal attack, the members also observed two minutes silence for the peace of late Tania. The students of Gulzar Group of Institute (Punjab) led by the students from Arunachal studying there took out a peace rally at Khanna in Ludhiana on February 3 seeking justice for Nido Tania, who was allegedly beaten to death by miscreants in South Delhi recently. Students of other North East states also participated in it. While condemning the tragic incident, the students said nobody should be hated on caste and color. “Northeast is also an integral part of India and we are among them” said the Executive Director of the College Gurkirat Singh. “Racism should not prevail in any college and society,” he added.

Expressing his deepest condolences over the death of Nido Tania, son of Raga MLA Nido Pavitra, the parliamentary secretary for agriculture Likha Saaya has condemned the attack in the strongest terms.
In a press statement today, the Yachuli MLA said that “rising number of crimes committed against Northeast residents in the national capital and other parts of the country are a cause of concern” and called for the need to initiate steps to create better understanding between all communities and regions of India. “A lack of awareness about the region and its people has created massive rift between people within the country. It is in the aftermath of such cases that we must collectively introspect as a nation”, Saaya said.
Appealing to people of the state to maintain calm, he further said that “now is the time to practice peace and express solidarity with the family of the deceased”. Calling for speedy justice for Tania, the MLA extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and prayed that they find peace during this difficult phase.

Sushmita Lama of Sikkim and Mahasweta Kumar of Assam lead amongst girls players with 5.5 points. They were followed by Jenny Gogoi and S. Monisha Devi both from Assam with 5 points each. Sejal Rai of Sikkim with 4.5 points and Rishita Sinha and Nikita Nath both from Assam, Manisha Gurung of Sikkim with 4 points each. The tournament concludes tomorrow.

Nido Tania was victim of racial attack
Dear Editor,
I am shocked and pain to know that Nido Tania was beaten to death by group of men at a crowded commercial locality in South Delhi on 29th Jan’2014 for simple reasons about his hairstyle and mongoloid features. Late Nido Tania was neither criminal nor thief. How can a group of people beat him so mercilessly, since it was a simple altercation between the individuals? It is clear case of racial discrimination to the people of NE region by the mainland people. Our hearts are beating with sadness. In this connection there was a discussion in ‘Times Now’ new channel anchored by Arnab Goswami at 9 pm on 31/1/2014 for 45 minutes without break.

social activist Bina Lakshmi, Mr Chari, Mr Rahul Iswar and Arunachal East MP Ninong

It’s a fact that NE People/students are facing discrimination in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai etc. So our elected representatives must protect the interest of NE region including hate crime otherwise they must go for paving way for energetic youth leaders.
Further, we must salute Arnab Goswami, Senior Journalist for showcasing that people from NE region too have potential in area of journalism. Govt, must recognize him and even I appeal state Govt to invite Arnab Goswami in the coming statehood day at Itanagar by honoring his ability, courage and knowledge.

It was an eye opener to read Amar Sangno’s article “Arunachal lives on razor edge” published in today’s edition of your daily. Hope entire Arunachalee have read and understood it, especially the so called elite elected leaders and pressure groups of state. Our future is dark, suffocated with lack of inter district connectivity. Just imagine if economic blockade lasts for one or two month, I suppose entire state would witness unrest and chaos. We are getting taste of it now. The economic blockade is affecting each and every individual's normal life. It also created unavoidable fear psychosis among Arunachalees who passes through Assam to reach various destinations.
What happened recently in Tarasso is highly condemnable, no human would ever appreciate
it and no human would ever want it to happen, however, who really is behind it is

The Silent Woman behind Creation of History on Republic day
Dear Editor,
While the dance and tablue team members received heaps of congratulations and nationwide appreciations for their magnetic performance during republic day celebration at Delhi, the real soul behind success of Rikampada dance and Ajilamu tablue has not been disclosed to the public of Arunachal Pradesh. The dedicated and tireless soul is none other than Madam Mamata Riba Naksang, Director Art and Culture. Her effective liasioning with North East Zonal Culture Centre Dimapur and Ministry of Defense, Culture affairs and of course the Tuki led State Govt has finally paid off and for the first time in history of Arunachal, a dance troup of 150 young souls and team of mesmerizing Ajilamu dance tablue captured imagination of the country. Madam Mamta Riba Naksang not only deserves a true gold medal but wild round of applause from the Nyishi, Monpa and Serdukpen community in particular and others in general for leaving a permanent imprint in the psyche of the nation towards richness of Arunachalee culture. I am sure the legendary soul of Lt Tomo Riba, father of madam Mamta, too enjoyed the colourfull cultural display on the republic Day and felt proud of his daughter.
